PATENT ATTORNEY
Full-Time, Ownership-Track
Etherton Law Group, LLC is a small, fast-growing intellectual property law firm in sunny Arizona seeking a full-time, ownership-track, entrepreneurial patent attorney with a minimum of two years of experience. We are looking for an attorney with a quick mind, common sense, and innate sense of how to represent small businesses, our primary clientele. If you have the desire and the risk tolerance to get in on the ground floor of an up-and-coming law firm, this is the opportunity for you.
You must be a registered patent attorney with experience preparing and prosecuting US patent and trademark applications. Experience preparing IP licenses, small business contracts, PCT patent applications and Madrid trademark applications will be favorably considered. You must have an engineering degree – mechanical or electrical preferred. Licensure in Arizona is desired, but not required.
We require superior legal and writing skills and evidence of it, such as honors in writing or law journal experience. We also require experience representing small (under $50 million) businesses. We are looking for someone who enjoys IP law and who really cares whether the client gets good value for its money. Experience owning your own small business will be favorably considered.
We are different from your typical law firm – we run our shop like a small corporation instead of a partnership. No minimum billable hours: you are a professional and we expect you to show up for work every day and get the job done. On occasion this will mean staying late or attending a client development event. Our office is open 9 to 5 for client contact, but the attorneys usually work 45-50 hour workweeks. Compensation is salary plus discretionary bonus.
If you are interested in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, please send your resume and a list of issued patents or published patent applications you have written in confidence to: careers@ethertonlaw.com or by fax at 602-681-3339.
We look forward to hearing from you.
PATENT ATTORNEY
Part-Time, Not Ownership-Track
Etherton Law Group, LLC is a small, fast-growing intellectual property law firm in sunny Arizona seeking an experienced registered patent attorney to handle patent preparation and prosecution on a part-time basis. This is the perfect job for someone stepping out of the partnership track who still wants to have a real lawyer job handling sophisticated issues.
You must be a registered patent attorney and have at least 4 years experience preparing US and PCT patent applications, US and Madrid Protocol trademark applications, IP licenses, and small business contracts. You must also be able to creatively counsel small businesses (under $50 million) about the intellectual property options available to them. We require superior legal and writing skills. Licensure in Arizona is desired, but not required.
This is not a contractor position – you will be an employee, work in our office, have full contact with clients, and malpractice insurance through the firm. Like our full-time position, we are looking for an attorney with a quick mind, common sense, and innate sense of how to represent small businesses, our primary clientele. We are looking for someone who enjoys IP law and who really cares whether the client gets good value for its money.
Compensation is hourly, salary, or by project, to be negotiated.

LIFE IN PHOENIX
Arizona is a world apart, rising from its southern border just miles from the Gulf of Mexico, to its 14,000 ft peaks near Flagstaff. Because of this change in elevation, Arizona offers every outdoor experience possible, from water skiing to snow skiing, birding to hunting, caving to astronomy. The Grand Canyon is truly breathtaking, making you sure of a higher power. The desert is fascinating and is home to plant and animal life seen nowhere else in the world, including the magnificent Saguaro cactus.
Our offices are in Phoenix, about one mile from Arizona State University in Tempe. The Phoenix metro area is known as one of the top ten places to live in the country (Money Magazine 2002), in part for its low cost of living and great weather. We boast one of the largest universities in the nation, Arizona State University, as well as the new University of Arizona College of Medicine and Thunderbird School of International Management. Phoenix is home to four pro sports teams, thriving art and jazz scenes, hip urban living in multiple city centers, and family-friendly suburban and urban communities.
The metro area is also home to a surprising number of globally-known technology companies, with headquarters or major facilities for Intel, Medicis, Motorola, Medtronics, Google, GoDaddy, DHL, Mayo Clinic, Banner Health Systems, Microchip, Freescale Semiconductor, Boeing, US Airways, and numerous others. |
